U.S. stocks fell 2 percent and the S&P 500 entered a bear market on Tuesday as European officials considered making banks take bigger losses on Greek debt.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 241.50 points, or 2.27 percent, at 10,413.80. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 24.24 points, or 2.21 percent, at 1,074.99. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 34.67 points, or 1.48 percent, at 2,301.16.
