The character customizing in "Sword Art Online: Lost Song." PlayStation Blog

Anime fans are in for a treat, as Bandai Namco have announced that “Sword Art Online: Lost Song” is now available on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. The game is an action roleplaying game (RPG) that features a new storyline that will include numerous characters from the anime and manga.

This isn’t just a filler arc though, as a press release from Bandai Namco stated that the game’s storyline would have plenty of involvement from Reki Kawahara, the original author of “Sword Art Online.” The storyline will also allow players to control 18 of their favorite characters from the series, including Kirito, Asuna and Leafa.

Players also have the option to create their own character for the game’s storyline. The customization lets players choose various races, hairstyles, skin colors and a number of voices for their created character.

The game also supports online multiplayer, so players can battle their friends in arenas and even team up with them to take on challenging dungeons. Online multiplayer is fitting, since the setting for the game and anime is in an online game that was corrupted.

Combat is a big focus of the game and it offers plenty of variety, according to the official PlayStation Blog. Aside from typical sword slashes and magic attacks, players can also take to the air with a unique flight system and take on aerial foes.

This is also keeping in touch with the anime and manga, since flight and combat were major parts in both mediums. The combination of flight and fight also lead to some of the more spectacular moments in the series, hence the big fan base.

“Sword Art Online” has proven to be one of the more popular anime series to come out in recent memory. The show was popular enough to have a second season, with more possibly coming in the near future.

Fans of the anime and manga can finally prepare their gear and “Link Start” to the world of ALfheim Online in “Sword Art Online: Lost Song.” The game is available now on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita through retail and digital stores.
