Syrian Warplane Crashes Near Iraqi Border

A Syrian fighter jet has crashed near the Iraq border, apparently hit by a missile fired by anti-government rebels.

According to reports, the warplane burst into flames over eastern Syria. The opposition Free Syrian Army claimed responsibility for the attack.

If these reports are correct, it would mean Syrian rebels have anti-aircraft capabilities at their disposal.

However, the state-controlled media SANA said the aircraft went down due to "technical problems,” adding that the pilot ejected before the explosion.
