Robert Green was the first contestant to have been sent home in “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14. Fox

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 held its first elimination on Monday night.

After last week’s performances, the 10 contestants and their all-star partners performed another routine for a chance to stay in the competition. In the end, three contestants were named as this week’s bottom three. Logan Hernandez did a stunning contemporary routine last week, but this did not translate well in terms of votes. He was one of the contestants in the bottom three, and according to TV Line, his jazz routine with all-star Allison Holker will most likely not resonate well with the viewers.

Ballroom dancer Sydney Tormey was the second contestant to join the bottom three. Last week, Tormey and her all-star partner, Paul Karmiryan, performed an electrifying routine. They were praised by judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Vanessa Hudgens. However, Tormey appeared to be a little shy, which had the judges urging her to open herself up more so she could show her personality. Even Tormey’s all-star partner said something similar.

Last week’s final team, Robert Green and Jasmine Harper, performed a hip-hop dance number. Even though they also received positive comments from the judges, Green’s partner admitted that he doesn’t have enough dance background and training. This is why Green lacks technical skills. In the end, the judges voted to keep Hernandez and Tormey in the competition, and Green was the first contestant to be sent home.

Meanwhile, seven other dancers performed with the all-stars. Kaylee Millis, who failed to impress the judges with her contemporary routine last week, came back with a vengeance on Monday night. She and Cyrus Spencer performed a hip hop routine wherein Millis outshined Spencer, and the judges took notice.

Last week’s frontrunners, Taylor Sieve and all-star Robert Roldan, performed a Broadway dance number. Their routine also earned them positive comments from the judges. Lex Ishimoto and all-star Gaby Diaz performed a much slower Argentine Tango this week, a contrast from their tap dance routine last week. They also received a slew of positive remarks from the judges.

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
