U.S. stocks extended gains on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq Composite and the S&P 500 indexes up more than 1 percent on gains in technology shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 87.97 points, or 0.82 percent, to 10,836.23. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 10.94 points, or 0.95 percent, to 1,166.73. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 27.56 points, or 1.16 percent, to 2,402.87.

Wall Street opened higher as Spain unveiled strong austerity measures, further easing worries over euro-zone sovereign debt problems.
