Just after the Houston Texans announced that rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL suffered during Thursday’s practice, Tom Savage is again tasked with the starting quarterback position.

Savage, 27, will start in Week 9 for the Texans Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. Savage started at quarterback in Week 1 and finished 7-for-13 with 62 yards and two fumbles against the Jaguars before being subbed out by Watson.

The 27-year-old will get the start and will likely continue the role for the rest of the regular season. Savage praised Watson’s during an impressive performance in Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.

"That’s incredible, man. I don’t know how you do it. I really don’t," Savage told Watson in a clip shown on Inside the NFL. "I would’ve pulled every muscle and both of my groins if I tried to do that."

The Texans could look to work out more quarterbacks. Former Colts QB Josh Johnson and former Chicago Bears QB Connor Shaw could be possible candidates for the positions, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Watson first took over as a starter for the Texans during Week 2. The rookie stood out in points per game (34.7) and was sixth in passing yards per game (266.2 average), according to NFL Research.

This is the third major injury to for the Texans this season. Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt had season-ending surgery this month after he suffered a tibial plateau fracture. Linebacker Whitney Mercilus injured his pectoral muscle in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in October.

The Texans (3-4) will take on the Colts Sunday at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
