Tom Hiddleston has been playing the god of mischief, Loki, for several years now in the Marvel franchise. He’s done such a wonderful job making the villain such a lovable character that he almost always steals the scene every time he makes an appearance.

Because of Loki’s huge fan base, Hiddleston confessed that he feels great pressure to portray the villain. “It is a source of constant surprise to me that I’m still here,” he told the Times of India. “I never expected that when I started playing him. I feel a huge responsibility to deliver the character people know, even though it’s been four years since I last played him, and also to try to take him in new directions.”

However, Hiddleston said that it’s still quite a challenge for him to try to get to the bottom of the character. Loki is such a complex creature that Hiddleston does not know if he’s really good or bad, or what it is he truly wants.

“I’ve spent six or seven years of my life trying to get to the bottom of what exactly it is that he wants. When he seems to get close to what he wants - power, acceptance, and belonging - he changes direction. I think that is the thing that keeps him interesting in a way. He’s cunning and transformative and changeable, and will do everything he can to survive. He’s the trickster. He’s the God of mischief,” he explained.

For Loki’s role in the upcoming film “Thor: Ragnarok,” Hiddleston said he will be teaming up with his half-brother, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), which is a surprise since Loki always made it clear he is not fond of Thor. However, the tables have turned in the movie since Thor is upset with Loki. “The idea that Thor might be indifferent to Loki is troubling for him, because that’s a defining feature of who his character is. I don’t belong in the family; my brother doesn’t love me; I hate my brother. The idea that his brother’s like, ‘Yeah, whatever.’ it’s an interesting development,” Hiddleston told Slash Film.

“Thor: Ragnarok” will be released on Nov. 3.
