Cyndi Lauper's “Kinky Boots” musical led the pack as this year's Tony Awards nominees were announced Tuesday in New York by Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster and “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson. "Kinky Boots" has 13 nominations, followed closely by “Matilda The Musical” with 12 and “Pippin” with 10.

Presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, the Tony Awards honor achievements in live Broadway theater for productions and performances by actors and actresses. The awards ceremony is named after Antoinette Perry, co-founder of the American Theatre Wing. Its name was shortened to The Tony Awards from The Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Theatre.

The 24-member Tony Awards Administration Committee chooses who is eligible for a nomination, and approximately 750 voters -- designated members of The Broadway League and other organizations -- pick the winner in each category.

The 67th annual Tony Awards will be held on Sunday, June 9, at 8 p.m. EST and aired live on CBS.
