Tony Hawk wants the world to know he’s back with the upcoming “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5” ("THPS 5"). The game, which will arrive Sept. 29, will have a 20-gamer multiplayer capability on current-generation game consoles.

The announcement was made through the PlayStation Blog. It assured that the game will have a large online community that will feel like a giant park where skaters can just come in and start doing tricks -- and even challenge other skaters to a race or combo challenge.

However, the 20-gamer multiplayer capability will be limited to current-gen consoles, such as Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. While “THPS 5” will be coming out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Eurogamer has confirmed that not only will the last-gen versions have no 20-player multiplayer, but they will have no online play in general -- probably a disappointment for last-gen gamers who would want online sessions with friends.

More features for the current-gen version include being able to build and customize a skate park, which could be a huge deal for fans of skateboarding -- or even just fans of “Tony Hawk” games in general. Despite the new features, the new game will attempt to replicate an old-school “THPS” game, rather than something a bit too radical like “Tony Hawk Underground 2” or the more recent failure “Tony Hawk Skate.”

Those who don’t want to make parks and instead just start skating right away may be pleased with the new “Slam” mechanic, which changes the pace of the skating and allows for the player to instantly hop to a grinding surface. The mechanic can be seen in the video below.

Longtime “THPS” publisher Activision is publishing the game. Those who pre-order it will get access to the “Totally Rad 80’s Pack,” which features an 80’s "Tony Hawk"among other features.
