The Root, a publication geared at covering African-American issues, released its Top 100 most influential African-Americans of 2011 on Wednesday. The list weighs the reach and substance of America's most influential African-Americans in politics, entertainment, and other fields.

The list contains a lot of names you're likely familiar with, but also a few that have remained under the radar to most. But before getting to the Top 10, here's a look at a few famous stars that didn't make the Top 10: Beyonce Knowles, Kanye West, Wyclef Jean, Tyra Banks, Drake, and Lebron James.
