Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott make sure that their children won’t feel the strain of their financial woes.

On Saturday, the couple threw a lavish unicorn-themed birthday party for their daughter Stella, who turned 9 years old. Spelling, 44, and McDermott, 50, invited their friends and family to a fun, colorful and entertaining celebration, brandishing each guest with a unicorn horn headband, People reported.

Among their guests were her mother, Candy Spelling, and the birthday celebrant’s four siblings: Liam, 10, Hattie, 5, Finn, 4, and Beau, 4 months.

Spelling, of course, did not miss the chance to share snaps from her daughter’s special day on social media. She posted a colorful photo on Instagram showing off a milkshake creation they had during the party. “And the #unicorn milkshake creation @bigdsburgers created for Stella to celebrate her 9th bday ( remember the days when bdays lasted an entire weekend?) This was an edible work of ART!” she wrote.

Tori’s brother, Randy Spelling, also shared a snapshot on Instagram from the birthday bash. “Unicorn hair done by Tori! Cousin Stella’s party day - unicorns unite @torispelling,” he wrote in the caption.

However, the lavish birthday bash Spelling and McDermott threw for their daughter also raised eyebrows and drew concern among fans, since the couple has been facing a financial crisis for a while now.

Earlier this month, the couple made headlines for their financial woes. E! News obtained court documents revealing a judge ruled that Spelling and McDermott owed $220,000 default judgment. The ruling came out after they missed a subpoenaed court appearance last week concerning their ongoing legal battle with City National Bank. The bank sued them after they failed to pay a loan they filed in 2010 worth $400,000.

Based on the documents, Spelling and McDermott failed to pony up the remaining $185,714 of their loan, as well as interest worth $2,407 and late charges amounting to $681. The bank also asked Spelling to pay $17,149, which she allegedly overdrew in September last year. Overall, City National Bank is seeking $205,000 in damages from the couple.

Aside from City National Bank, the State of California hit them for unpaid state taxes worth $259,108. American Express also filed two lawsuits against Spelling for failing to pay a $37,981 balance and another $87,594 for one of her platinum credit cards.
