Tropical Storm Fred continues to gain strength as it moves to the west across the Atlantic and is expected to become a hurricane.

Fred has reached maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour according to the National Hurricane Center on Tuesday.

Fred is centered about 345 miles southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands and is moving to the west near 14 mph. Compared to other tropical systems seen this year, Fred will likely have very little impact on any landmass aside from the Cape Verde Islands, accuweather.com reports.

The tropical storm is expected to continue strengthening over the next 24 to 48 hours according to Accuweather.com today.
