Marco A. Rodriguez, 50, who was arrested earlier this month for hiding a 27-year-old woman’s corpse, said he was having sexual intercourse with her when she died.

Rodriguez told Beloit, Wisconsin, police officers investigating the death of Nakiela Thompson that she texted him the night she died and told him to meet her at Beloit park, the New Richmond News reports. Rodriguez said he’d been paying her $20 for sex at the local truck stop over the course of the previous two months.

According to the criminal complaint, Rodriguez said Thompson stopped breathing while they were having sex. He then panicked and loaded her body into a truck to hide. The coroner attributed her cause of death to asphyxiation and cocaine was detected in her system.

The body of Nakiela A. Thompson, 27, of Milwaukee, was found at the Road Ranger truck stop in South Beloit, Illinois, on Nov. 1, a Winnebago County Coroner’s Office report issued earlier this month detailed. Winnebago County detectives interviewed Rodriguez soon after, who said that he did not kill Thompson, but instead just moved her body from the truck stop. Rock County sheriff’s deputies arrested Rodriguez last Thursday on a charge of hiding a corpse.

Beloit is a small town about 75 miles southwest of Milwaukee on the Illinois border, although both Rock County and Beloit police are not sure if she was killed in Wisconsin or Illinois.

A Rock County Circuit Court Commissioner set his cash bond at $10,000.
