The dome is coming down! That’s right, after three seasons of entrapment under the mysterious vault, our beloved residents of Chester Mill’s will finally taste freedom during the “earth shattering” series finale of “Under the Dome.”

“As the Dome in Chester's Mill comes down, the Resistance, led by Barbie (Mike Vogel), Julia (Rachelle Lefvre) and Big Jim (Dean Norris), makes a final attempt to protect the outside world from the infected townspeople in the Kinship and their new queen,” the synopsis for episode 13, titled “The Enemy Within,” states, teasing a nail-biting ending. And that’s exactly what fans of the CBS thriller will get in the series’ final installment: drama, drama, drama.

“Brace yourselves for a ground breaking, breath-taking, holy moly mind-blowing television event,” a promo video for the series finale warns. In the 20-second clip, viewers witness all sorts of eye-widening moments occur, from Big Jim throwing punches, to Barbie and Julia falling through a crack in the Earth.

But out of all the promo’s intense scenes, the one we’re most looking forward to the moment when the dome comes down. During the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour, CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler revealed to the audience would get to see a dome-less Chester Mill’s in the Season 3 finale of “Under the Dome.”

“The Dome is coming down at the end of the season,” she said, weeks before it was determined that Season 3 would be the show’s final installment.

CBS announced that the supernatural story, based on Stephen King’s same-named bestseller, would be concluding on Tuesday.

“Two years ago, ‘Under the Dome’ broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world,” Nina Tassler, chair of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. “'Dome’s' event storytelling and multiplatform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of ‘Extant’ and ‘Zoo.’ We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”

“Under the Dome” will air its series finale on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
