It looks like Bonnie (Kat Graham) is going to spend her birthday alone in Season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries." CW

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 is certainly moving things along for some characters -- like Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev), as well as Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley). However, one person is stuck in the same place: Bonnie (Kat Graham). While “The Vampire Diaries” midseason premiere didn’t include Bonnie, she’ll be showing up soon. Now that the show is back from winter hiatus, she has to be headed back to Mystic Falls ... right?

Unfortunately it seems Bonnie won’t be rescued soon. With Kai (Chris Wood) on the loose, the gang can’t get Bonnie back. Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) showed everyone in the midseason premiere that she needs more time to build her strength if she wants to merge with her psychotic brother. So it looks like Bonnie is going to be stuck in the 1996 universe a little while longer, even through her birthday. Executive producer Julie Plec revealed that her birthday would bring more memories of home, even if she isn’t there.

"Next time we see Bonnie, it's her birthday, and her friends are in the spirit of celebrating her even though she's not with them, putting together a birthday party for her," Plec told E! Online. "And she's putting together a little thing for herself. But you get to see that sense of isolation and loneliness."

How much more isolation and loneliness can they put her through? At Christmas Bonnie attempted to put together a holiday celebration for herself too, but that ended with her setting the tree on fire. Her birthday celebration sounds like it will be similar. We’re hoping Bonnie ends the episode with a homecoming, but that’s probably asking for a little too much. However, Bonnie will return to Mystic Falls relatively soon. While Plec still hasn’t revealed when Bonnie is coming back, she teased last month that the Bennett witch would eventually make it back to her friends. The twist is that she won’t be the same when she comes back.

After spending the holidays and her birthday alone, the new Bonnie isn’t going to be soft and sweet. Expect the witch to toughen up after this experience. Executive producer Caroline Dries previously dished that “a new badass Bonnie is emerging.” Fans will have to wait for her to come home to see just how much she changed.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on the CW. Do you think Bonnie will come home soon or will that be saved for the end of the season? Sound off in the comments section below!
