Diego Costa retook the Premier League scoring lead and Oscar recorded his fourth goal and seventh assist of the season as Chelsea ran over Newcastle United 2-0 Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

Continuing is torrid and unstoppable onslaught, Costa scored his 15th goal of this season to give Chelsea some extra cushion in the 59th minute. The victory also allows the Blues to keep Manchester City at bay atop the EPL table. City drew 1-1 with Everton Saturday, handing the Blues a two-point lead for first place.

It was also a bit of sweet revenge against a Magpies side that snapped Chelsea’s undefeated run through the first five months of the Premier League with a 2-1 win back on Dec. 6.

United are now winless in their last three matches and remain in 10th place on the table, but could move down if Stoke prevails over Arsenal Sunday.

Catching the Magpies defense off guard with a quick corner kick by Willian, Oscar opened up the scoring in the 43rd minute. Willian slipped the ball along the goal line to defender Branislav Ivanovic, who found Oscar unmarked in the center of the box for a touch and goal.

It was an excellent display of teamwork and precision passing that Chelsea have employed all season, and would later result in Costa’s goal.

In the 59th, midfielder Eden Hazard chipped a through ball to Oscar on the left wing, and the Brazilian one-touched a low pass to Costa in the center of the box. Costa sucked the defense in with a hesitation dribble, and buried a shot across his body to the bottom left corner past United’s Tim Krul.

The Blues next face Swansea at Liberty Stadium, before hosting City on Jan. 31, a match that will no doubt prove critical to deciding this season’s champion.
