Defender Rafael’s soaring goal outside the box gave Manchester United a lead they would never relinquish in their 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers Saturday at Loftus Road.

The first place Red Devils have opened up a commanding 15-point gap in the Premier League with 11 matches to go. QPR now has as minus-24 goal differential and are at the bottom of the table.

Ryan Giggs widened the gap in the 80th off an assist from Nani with a right-footed shot from the left side of the box. Still, United squandered several other opportunities that could have padded their lead. It was the second goal of the season for the 39-year-old Giggs, and his 999th professional match.

QPR had their chances as well. They took 14 shots with three on goal, while United took 14 shots with six on target. Sir Alex Ferguson's squad held possession for just 51 percent of the match.

Robin van Persie left in the 41st minute with a slight injury, but the injury is reportedly not viewed as too serious.
