In a particularly rough match with six total bookings and a combined 25 fouls, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain outlasted Marseille 2-0 in Le Classique on Sunday night at Parc Des Princes.

Edinson Cavani scored his 14th goal of the season, and Maxwell his third while star Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to break Le Classique scoring record held by Pedro Miguel Pauleta despite totaling three shots.

PSG created even more breathing room for first place in Ligue 1, and are now up by eight points over Monaco and 21 points ahead of fifth place Marseille.

After a quiet first half, Maxwell opened up the scoring after Ibrahimovic just avoided an offsides by slipping the ball past the Marseille back line. Maxwell did the rest with a left-footed shot to the left side of the net in the 50th minute.

While injuries have limited Cavani, the Uruguayan has still proved resilient and showed superb athleticism with a powerful header off a breathtaking ticky-tack cross from defender Gregory Van Der Wiel in the 79th minute for the 2-0 winning score.

The yellows were split evenly by the halves, with PSG midfielders Thiago Motta and Blaise Matuidi each booked in the first 45 minutes along with Marseille Dimitri Payet.

PSG striker Lucas Moura was booked in the 49th minute, and defenders Lucas Michel Mendes and Rod Fanni showed their frustrations with Marseille's last two yellows in the 66th and 75th minutes.
