Real Madrid lead Juventus 2-1 at half time of their Champions League group game at the Bernabeu. Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice for the home side, with Fernando Llorente getting one for Juventus in between.

Madrid, who led Group B with maximum points from two games coming into the match, got off to the perfect start on Wednesday. Just five minutes in, Angel di Maria went past Andrea Pirlo, cutting in from the right, before playing a fine reverse ball through to Ronaldo, who coolly took it past Gianluigi Buffon and finished into the unguarded net.

But midway through the half the Italian champions, who had just two points from their opening two matches, were level. And it was their Spanish striker, back in his homeland who got it. Paul Pogba headed a far-post cross toward goal that Iker Casillas was able to keep out on the line but could do nothing to stop Llorente’s follow up going past him at the near post. It was the striker’s second goal since his summer move from Athletic Bilbao.

The visitors did not stay on level terms for long. Just over five minutes later, Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini conceded a penalty for bringing down Sergio Ramos from a free-kick. Juventus’ protestations ignored, Ronaldo stepped up and put the ball high to Buffon’s right to give his side an advantage in a half where Juventus had the bulk of the efforts on goal.
