The 2014 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo with plenty of pageantry, as the opening ceremony to the one-month soccer tournament boasted performances from stars Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull accompanied by samba music and electric dancers.

Lopez and Pitbull, sporting Brazil jersey, performed the official World Cup song "We Are One (Ole Ola)” with Claudia Leitte. The concert was criticized for disappointing sound, and Pitbull's white pants also received plenty of comments on social media. Roughly 60,000 fans were in attendance.

The event featured a gigantic LED ball centerpiece, with performers from Sao Paulo dancing academies dressed in Carnivale-inspired garb circling the multicolored orb.

The centerpiece flashed welcome messages the 32 languages of the qualifying countries.

However Brazilian fans made up the bulk of the crowd, dressed in their traditional blazing yellow, green and blue ahead of their team’s clash with Croatia in Group A play.
