Shares in British cable operator Virgin Media opened down 2.4 percent at $22.25 on Tuesday after its Chief Executive Steve Burch said he was standing down due to personal reasons.

The group said Chief Operating Officer Neil Berkett would assume the role of acting chief executive and a search for Burch's replacement would begin shortly.
