Stocks fell at the open on Monday, weighed by persistent concerns over a possible monetary tightening in China that could slow the global recovery from recession.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 7.48 points, or 0.07 percent, at 10,617.21. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 2.68 points, or 0.23 percent, at 1,147.31. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 7.63 points, or 0.32 percent, at 2,360.03.
