Wall Street opened lower on Wednesday after a report on private-sector employment in March dented hopes of a stronger economic recovery in the United States, and a rating downgrade of several Greek banks heightened concerns about the debt-laden country.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 20.79 points, or 0.19 percent, at 10,886.63. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> slipped 2.87 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,170.40. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> shed 6.91 points, or 0.29 percent, at 2,403.78.
