Stocks fell on Friday after an unexpected fall in existing home sales in January overshadowed more positive data earlier in the morning, including GDP and business activity in the U.S. Midwest.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 28.26 points, or 0.27 percent, at 10,292.77. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 3.56 points, or 0.32 percent, at 1,099.38. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 8.64 points, or 0.39 percent, at 2,225.58.
