Stocks extended losses in early trade on Friday, as investors found few reasons to buy following a volatile week and ahead of a speech from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on the economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 96.00 points, or 0.86 percent, at 11,053.82. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 10.04 points, or 0.87 percent, at 1,149.23. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 14.99 points, or 0.62 percent, at 2,404.64.
