Stocks pared losses on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq Composite turning positive after opening down 1.2 percent, buoyed by gains in biotechnology and computer hardware shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> shed 7.71 points, or 0.07 percent, to 10,777.43. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> slipped 1.49 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,158.24. But the Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 1.84 points, or 0.08 percent, to 2,376.51.

Stocks opened lower as concerns lingered about how Greece will get its budget deficit under control.
