U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday in volatile trade as data showed the economy added jobs in April at the fastest pace in four years, though concerns over euro zone debt and the previous session's steep plunge weighed.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 30.99 points, or 0.29 percent, to 10,551.31. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 3.73 points, or 0.33 percent, to 1,131.88. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 4.16 points, or 0.18 percent, to 2,323.80.
