Stocks lost ground on Wednesday, pulled lower by technology shares and after the Federal Reserve said economic activity in some districts has lost steam.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dipped 35.34 points, or 0.34 percent, to 10,502.35. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> lost 6.09 points, or 0.55 percent, to 1,107.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> fell 20.83 points, or 0.91 percent, to 2,267.42.
