Wall Street opened lower on Wednesday after data for new orders of long-lasting U.S. manufactured goods recorded their biggest gain in two years in July, but rose less than forecast, excluding transportation.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 34.99 points, or 0.37 percent, to 9,504.30. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 3.99 points, or 0.39 percent, to 1,024.01. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> shed 6.50 points, or 0.32 percent, to 2,017.73.
