U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday as surprising May jobs data provided the most definitive evidence the recession was easing.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 81.27 points, or 0.93 percent, to 8,831.51. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 7.98 points, or 0.85 percent, to 950.44. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 13.56 points, or 0.73 percent, to 1,863.58.
