Wall Street opens higher after payrolls

Wall Street opened slightly higher on Friday as investors gave a mixed reaction to a government report showing overall employment in the United States fell in June for the first time this year while private-sector hires increased.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 9.96 points, or 0.10 percent, to 9,742.49. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 1.89 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,029.26. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 3.13 points, or 0.15 percent, to 2,104.49.
