Stocks opened lower on Wednesday as a gain in healthcare stocks was offset by a drop in semiconductors following a profit outlook from Texas Instruments Inc .

Health insurers rose after Senate Democratic healthcare negotiators said they agreed to replace a government-run insurance option with a scaled-back non-profit plan.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 13.31 points, or 0.13 percent, to 10,272.66. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> shed 1.14 points, or 0.10 percent, to 1,090.80. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> dipped 6.80 points, or 0.31 percent, to 2,166.19.
