U.S. stocks rose further on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve said U.S. economic activity has picked up following severe downturn.

The Fed said in its statement following a two-day policy-setting meeting inflation is likely to remain subdued for some time.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 58.95 points, or 0.60 percent, to 9,888.82. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 5.57 points, or 0.52 percent, to 1,077.23. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 13.26 points, or 0.62 percent, to 2,159.56.
