Stocks opened slightly higher on Monday, as technology shares climbed after Apple Inc and EMC Corp received positive brokerage comments, while General Motors Corp rose on optimism about contract negotiations.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 34.06 points, or 0.25 percent, at 13,854.25. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 0.71 point, or 0.05 percent, at 1,526.46. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.45 points, or 0.28 percent, at 2,678.67.
