Stocks dropped on Friday, with major indexes down more than 1 percent, after weak job creation in June dented hopes the economy was emerging from a temporary soft patch and headed for a rebound.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 137.36 points, or 1.08 percent, to 12,582.13. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> dropped 17.32 points, or 1.28 percent, to 1,335.90. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> dropped 31.81 points, or 1.11 percent, to 2,840.85.
