“Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” star Benzino was allegedly shot on Saturday by his nephew en route to his mother’s funeral on a Massachusetts highway, reports WCVB. The well-known rap star, whose real name is Raymond Scott, and Gai Scott, 36, reportedly have a strained relationship.

"There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott and Gai Scott," Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement, as quoted by WCVB. Benzino was taken to South Shore Hospital with non-fatal injuries, according to officials. "At some point when the cars were side by side, Gai Scott fired several shots into the red Dodge SUV being driven by Raymond Scott," the statement said.

"There were shell casings everywhere," Marty Kearns, who was driving alongside the funeral procession, told the news site. "There were four holes up the side of the vehicle, which started in the rear and then there were three in the passenger door."

Benzino, 48, was rushed to the hospital and Scott was arrested by Plymouth police and charged with assault with intent to murder. The news site said the funeral was delayed, but eventually proceeded as a bloody hearse and bloody cars sat in the parking lot.

"The shock to me was when I came out at the end of the funeral and saw the hearse and the limo wrapped in crime-scene tape. That was a jolt," Father William Williams, the parish priest, told WCVB.

Benzino is currently in stable condition, TMZ said, and his “LHHATL” costar Steve J posted a picture to Instagram of the reality star in the hospital to prove it. Since his left bicep is bandaged in the hospital photo, it appears that’s where he was shot.

Benzino, of Mansfield, Mass., first made a name for himself by becoming a member of rap group Made Men. In 2012 he joined the cast of "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” and he’s also the CEO of Hip-Hop Weekly.

“LHHATL” is known for its crazy fights and over-the-top drama, which has helped make it a success. The third season will kick off on VH1 in May.
