Washington is the best city in the United States when it comes to hygiene, claims the 2015 American Fitness Index. Citing data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the index lists the healthiest and least healthiest cities in the country.

The top five healthiest cities were Washington, Minneapolis, San Diego, San Fransisco and Sacramento, California; while the least healthiest were Oklahoma City; Memphis, Tennessee; and Indianapolis.

The statistics have changed a little from the 2014. While Washington and Minneapolis retained spots in the top five, the bottom cities last year were Nashville, Tennessee; Louisville, Kentucky; and Memphis.

“Emerging public health information suggests that to reach the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s goal to improve health and fitness, prevent disease and disability, and enhance quality of life for all Americans through physical activity, we must create a culture that integrates physical activity into our daily lives,” stated the panel of 26 physical activity experts in their report.

The report has revealed both negative and positive aspects of the state of health prevailing in the country. The team of health experts found that although the rate of coronary heart diseases in the country has dropped by 9.5 percent between the years 2014 and 2015, the number of people who worked out in the past 30 days dropped by 11 percent.
