Scandal alert! Scandal alert! Keith Price, the quarterback of the University of Washington Huskies, was talking to Steve Kelley from The Seattle Times on Saturday when he made a verbal gaffe, an oops!, or whatever you'd like to call it.

He said he's getting paid to play college football.

The exchange began when Kelley asked Price the clichéd question to rule all clichés: What is it about you on game day?

You're supposed to be nervous, Kelley went on. It's your first year on the job. You're supposed to be wide-eyed. You're just sort of, 'This is what I do.'

Price basked in the glow of his admirer.

Yeah, this is what I'm supposed to do, Price answered. This is what I'm getting paid for -- is to play.

No!

You're getting paid? Kelley said.

No! No!

No, no! Price said, laughing. Scholarship money! Scholarship money!

Oh, he's just joking. Such is life when the Washington Huskies are relevant for the first time in a long time. Price threw four touchdown passes last week as the Huskies routed Colorado, 52-24. The Huskies are 5-1 for the first time since 2001, and 3-0 in the conference for the first time since 1997.
