A Colombian family was allegedly confronted by a man carrying a baseball bat Thursday. The attacker called them "terrorists" and "ISIS," in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.

The incident took place in the parking area of Elgin Mall.

According to a report by the Independent, the St. Thomas police department responded to the incident after reports came in of a man attacking another man with a bat. Police authorities stated that the attacker fled the scene before the police came although a video of the incident was captured by the alleged victim’s son.

The alleged victim, Sergio Estepa, who immigrated to Canada from Colombia with his partner, said that the incident took place when he and his partner, Mari Zambranoa, went to the mall to meet their son after school. He said after they met their son, a man approached them carrying a baseball bat.

Zambranoa posted the videos on her Instagram account.

In the video below, the man can be heard asking for the Estepa's phone saying, "you’re under arrest." He also asked the family to let him inspect what they had in their pockets. He then started to shout the words "terrorists" and called the family "French terrorists."

In another video the man can be seen and heard shouting the words "terrorists" and "ISIS" at the family. The man screamed, "ISIS! We got ISIS right here!" The video also shows the man hurling the baseball bat the family after which he steps back and starts to walk towards his car.

According to the family, a witness to the incident gave a statement to the police. The witness was the former principal of their son’s elementary school.

According to a report by CTV News, a Canadian broadcast television network, Estepa said, "I think it was my beard and the fact we speak with an accent."

The report said that the suspect, Mark Phillips, 36, was located on Thursday night in south London, Ontario, 9 p.m. local time and arrested. His last known address was in Toronto.

The police stated they were investigating the incident as a hate crime. Phillips will be facing three counts of assault with a weapon along with charges of aggravated assault.
