The cast of CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” brought the laughs on Sunday night when its members provided a special -- and hilarious -- skit for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards show. While it was guaranteed that Neil Patrick Harris would bring the laughs, his cast mates joined him to inform viewers about a very serious condition -- EHD.

What is EHD, you may ask? Well, as Alyson Hannigan explains, it’s “Excessive Hosting Disorder.”

“There is a crisis in America,” Cobie Smulders begins in the skit produced to look like a public-service announcement.

“And it has a name,” Josh Radnor continues, “EHD.”

“Excessive Hosting Disorder. It can affect anyone,” Hannigan explains.

“Even your closest friend,” Radnor says. “Neil, can you come out here for a minute?”

In full-fledged hosting mode, Harris comes on screen to provide a song-and-dance number.

“Five, six, seven, eight. What’s going on, Josh, I’m ready to rock,” Harris sings. “I got me some dancers, I’ll show you my co -- come on. Where’s my top hat? Wardrobe!”

The skit shows a couple of instances when Harris’ EHD has flared, including a moment on the “How I Met Your Mother” set, with Hannigan explaining how she received a gift bag from the 2009 Tony Awards two years in a row (fortunately, she loves the “Rock of Ages” slippers).

“How I Met Your Mother” returns to CBS for its ninth and final season this Monday at 8 p.m. EDT.
