April the pregnant giraffe was close to giving birth on the live stream camera from her home in upstate New York after her udders filled. Animal Adventure Park, the zoo where April was housed, reported a full udder meant she might be close to giving birth, which is something thousands of viewers waited for since the zoo started a live stream on YouTube last month.

“Progression! The udder continues to fill,” the zoo reported Monday on their official Facebook page. “Giraffes do not ‘bag up’ with a full udder in the sense of a cow, dog, goat, sow. Their udder is very subtle and tucked between the legs. The development occurs, generally, just prior to birthing. Photo of this morning's mammary growth in comments. Here forward, we are most concerned with this area and will gauge our status from it, until a hoof is waving hello!” They added: “All other behaviors and appetite are on point.”

Since streaming April’s pregnancy, Animal Adventure Park’s following grew to more than 860,000 followers. Updates about April garner 15,000 to 90,000 reactions.

One of the things the zoo checks during their updates on April is her wax caps, which seals the udders so the colostrum is kept fresh for the calf. “Wax caps are in place but we have noted a significant mammary change! Photo is comments section! We are getting there!” Animal Adventure Park wrote Monday. “Any changes will be posted throughout the day.”

When April gives birth, her calf will weigh 150 pounds and stand at 6-feet-tall. The baby will remain with its mother for up to 10 months, but will slowly be weaned off nursing and eventually be moved away from April to avoid incestuous behavior.

With the month of April days away, the giraffe could give birth in her namesake month. A vote will be had to determine the name of the calf.
