Who Is Doria Radlan? Prince Harry Says Meghan Markle’s Mom Is ‘Amazing’

Meghan Markle has introduced her mom, Doria Radlan, to her fiancé, Prince Harry.

During their first interview as an engaged couple, Prince Harry gushed over Radlan and called her “amazing.” But who exactly is Radlan other than the mom of Markle and soon to be mother-in-law of Prince Harry?

Radlan is a yoga instructor and a social worker who divorced Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, in 1988. The “Suits” alum was just 6 at that time. According to The Sun, Radlan suffered from racial abuse because of the color of her skin. She is of African-American descent, while Thomas was Dutch-Irish.

Growing up, Markle was always asked if her mom was her biological mom because they have different skin tones. Radlan used to also wear dreadlocks. At one point, Markle’s mom was even mistaken as her nanny.

“I was home in LA on a college break when my mom was called the ‘N’ word. We were leaving a concert and she wasn’t pulling out a parking space quickly enough for another driver. Being biracial paints a blurred line that is equal parts staggering and illuminating,” she told Elle Magazine.

According to Markle, her mom grew up not having anything much, just like her father. As such, Radlan always took her daughter to impoverish places. “Both of my parents came from little, so they made a choice to give a lot,” she said.

It is unclear when exactly did Markle introduce Prince Harry to her mom. But the couple was seen with Radlan at the Invictus Games in October. They announced their engagement a month later.

Meanwhile, during their first sit-down interview with BBC, Prince Harry shared that he has not met Markle’s dad in person. But Markle’s brother, Thomas Markle Jr. told the Daily Mail in January that their dad met Prince Harry in Toronto about six months ago.

“He’s pretty happy about Harry, and he’s extremely proud of her. They have an amazing relationship, they’re very close and they always have been,” Thomas Jr. said.

Following Markle and Prince Harry’s engagement, Radlan and Thomas Sr. released a statement expressing their happiness over the news.
