Wendi Murdoch and a man named Jonnie Marbles are the surprise stars of the parliamentary hearing over the News of the World hacking scandal.

Self-proclaimed anarchist, Marbles stood up from the public gallery at the hearing with a frothy pie and attempted to splat Murdoch in the face.

It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat, said Marbles, who describes himself as Activist, comedian, father figure and all-round nonsense tweeted right before the incident.

Immediately, Murdoch's wife Wendi Mudoch stood up and began punching Marbles.

Wendi took him down -- not the cops. You go, girl! tweeted film critic Roger Ebert.

Go Wendi....what a punch! #ChineseSuperpower TV host and former News of the World editor Piers Morgan tweeted.

Wendi just stole all the headlines. That idiot protestor, allowed in by MPs, has single-handedly won the day's PR for the Murdochs.

MPs called the attack wholly unacceptable.

Murdoch shook off the attack and went back to the committee, answering MPs' questions with a confidence he hadn't yet shown. He then read a statement, and MPs apologized for the attack.

Former News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks will testify next. She is a likely pieing target, but the gallery will not allow the public any more.
