The United States Customs and Border Protection arrested a Florida teenager, who had been missing, after he tried to enter Canada from Buffalo, New York, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Logan Mott, 15, was considered a person of interest in the murder of his grandmother. He was detained after he took a wrong turn toward Canada, authorities said.

"We are relieved he is safe and in custody and we just ask for everyone to give us time to sort out what happened,” the boy's mother Carrie Campbell-Mott said after being told of her son’s detention, Fox 30 Jacksonville reported.

She added “no matter what, Logan is our child and we love him and are standing by him to help in any way. We want to find out what happened to Kristina and we need time for that to happen."

Police found the body of Logan's grandmother, 53-year-old Kristina French, in the backyard of the Neptune Beach home from where both of them were reported missing earlier this week.

Authorities in Neptune Beach and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after the boy's father reported the two missing. Investigators uncovered “possible criminal violence inside the home,” CBS reported.

Describing Logan while he was missing, his mother said the teenager was good and kind to his family, and remained introspective through life – "always looking at the world, analyzing it." She also described him as brave beyond his years and talked about his diabetes, which now concerned her gravely.

During a press conference Friday, police said surveillance video in Pennsylvania showed a person matching Logan's description. The teen was also reportedly driving a car similar to one owned by his grandmother, which was reported stolen Wednesday.

Police later issued an alert saying Logan was likely armed and dangerous.

Before his arrest, Logan's mother told Florida's First Coast News her son had some trouble adjusting transferring away from his friends at Fletcher Middle School and entering Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville.
