To the shock of most of her fans, Reese Witherspoon was arrested along with her husband in Atlanta early Friday.

The Hollywood starlet, whose real name is Laura Reese Witherspoon, was handcuffed for disorderly conduct after her husband, Creative Artists Agency agent James Toth, was pulled over by authorities because their Ford Focus was weaving into the lane for oncoming traffic, according to a police report obtained by Variety.

The Oscar-winning actress, 37, was arrested and briefly put into jail along with her husband in Atlanta, where she is currently filming the indie film “The Good Lie.”

Witherspoon reportedly refused to stay in the vehicle while police gave Toth, 42, a field sobriety test. According to the arresting officer’s account, the “Legally Blonde” star became increasingly agitated as the officer repeatedly told her to get back in her car while she tried to argue on her husband’s behalf.

She reportedly “stated that she was a ‘US citizen’ and that she was allowed to ‘stand on American ground,’” according to the arresting officer.

“Mrs. Witherspoon asked, 'Do you know my name?’” Variety quoted the report as saying. “I answered, ‘No, I don't need to know your name.’ I then added, ‘Right now.’ Mrs. Witherspoon stated, ‘You're about to find out who I am.’”

The couple was booked at a nearby station where Toth was charged with driving under the influence after blowing a .139 during a Breathalyzer test administered at the scene, while Witherspoon was charged with disorderly conduct. They were reportedly released from jail Friday around 3:30 a.m. EDT.

Both Toth and Witherspoon are scheduled to appear in an Atlanta court Monday at 8 a.m., but, according to sources who spoke to Us Weekly, they are probably going to ask for a postponement since the actress is currently in New York for the premiere of her new film “Mud,” which co-stars Matthew McConaughey.
