Will Barbara Walters Die From The Chicken Pox? ‘View’ Co-Hosts Mock News Anchor’s Illness

"We want to give you an update on Barbara. You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She'd never had it as a child. So now she's been told to rest; she's not allowed any visitors. And we're telling you, Barbara, no scratching," Goldberg said on "The View."

The women were all in good spirits as they sat around their half-moon table, cackling at the jokes they exchanged amongst themselves, but for an 83-year-old, the chicken pox virus might be more serious than “The View” hosts seem to think.

“It needs to be taken seriously since adults are at increased risk of complications including pneumonia, brain inflammation, and bacterial skin infections," health and medical editor Dr. Richard Besser explained to ABC News. "If you think you never had chicken pox, regardless of your age, see your doctor to talk about whether you should get vaccinated."

Regardless, people seem to be making endless jokes about the famed news anchor contracting the virus, with her “View” co-hosts at the front of the line.

Joy Behar wrote on Twitter, “Barbara Walters has the Chicken Pox. Hey, that's what she gets for interviewing Honey Boo Boo.”

Since she has just gotten chicken pox, Walters is also at risk for getting shingles.

"Shingles occurs when the virus, lying dormant in your nerve roots, reactivates," said Besser, adding that a shingles vaccination is recommended to people who are over 60. "The vaccine will cut in half your chances of getting shingles."

According to ABC News, the veteran journalist is expected to be home soon.

Walters sent out a statement last week where she wanted to "thank all the people who have called, written and been concerned about me."
