The Oregon Ducks' new 2012 Rose Bowl uniform, which was unveiled on Tuesday, has all the scintillating, evolutionary upgraded technology that most everyone has come to expect from Nike. A new mesh material, less bulky padding and a flashy-designed helmet headline Oregon's latest Nike Pro Combat step up.

On the contrary, the Ducks' Rose Bowl opponent on Jan. 2, the Wisconsin Badgers, have decided to keep things a little simpler.

Adidas, the supplier of Wisconsin's uniforms, unveiled the special outfits for the team on Friday after a giant countdown ticker on the now-defunct wisconsinrose.com left fans in suspense. Some might debate on whether the wait was worth it, though. Unlike Oregon's uniform, there's no new mesh that will wick away more sweat, open-hole weaving that provides more ventilation or padding that makes the player lighter.

What Wisconsin's uniform does have, however, is a new design, inspired by the tradition of the Rose Bowl and the school's back-to-back trips to Pasadena, according to the official press release from Adidas. The Badgers will maintain their classic white and red uniform (more white than red, though), featuring what Adidas calls a Battle Rose design that includes rose petal graphics drawn into the jersey numbers and the motion W helmet logo and stripes.

Part of the Badgers' Battle Rose design also includes the Adidas TechFit baselayer, which features the Motion W logo enhanced with rose-petal graphics on the left bicep and the phrases On, Wisconsin! and Back-to-Back on the chest, celebrating the school's fight song and return to Pasadena for the second year in a row, respectively.

The newly-designed Motion W logo will also appear on the palm of Wisconsin's Adizero gloves with additional rose petals in the background. The team will also wear two new lightweight Adidas football cleats: the Adizero Smoke and Malice 2 Fly, which both become available in stores in 2012.

Compared to the eccentricity of Oregon's, Wisconsin's uni seems to be more conservative, doing more with less. Design is more emphatic than material. A safe bet, yes. But come game time, that mostly-white get-up is going to have to get just as dirty as Oregon's.

Both teams will be seeking their 12th win of the season in the 98th installment of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Kickoff is set for 2:10 p.m. PST.
