Woman Walking With Son Attacked, Injured By Buffalo In 'Unusual Incident'

A woman in her 40s was injured after a buffalo attacked her while she was visiting a property with her son in Denham Court, Sydney, on Monday.

Paramedics arrived at the scene after receiving reports of an animal attack. The unidentified woman, who suffered injuries to her leg, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was in a stable condition.

Neighbor Stefan Murphy told NCA NewsWire there were multiple buffaloes living on the property; however, this was the first time such an incident took place. It was not clear what caused the attack.

"I saw her getting taken into the ambulance, she seemed all right," he said. It was, however, not known who the property belonged to.

Calling it an "unusual incident," NSW ambulance inspector Audie Jousif said, "We attend quite a few jobs involving animals but being called to a buffalo attack in Sydney is one of the more unusual incidents."

"These types of jobs can be really quite challenging for paramedics, especially with the possibility of an angry buffalo lurking close by – they need to be able to get to the patient quickly but have to ensure they are not putting themselves in harm’s way. Our paramedics did a fantastic job in getting to this lady and providing the best possible care," he added, 9 News reported.

The incident comes a month after a buffalo was caught on camera attacking a police officer in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The officer was entering the premises of a police station on his bike when the buffalo charged at him from the opposite direction and pushed him off the bike. The animal then dragged the unidentified officer with its horns for a few meters before it was chased away by another man. The condition of the officer was not known. Meanwhile, the video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
