Wonder Woman
Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) might be gone, but his friends are definitely up to something in “Wonder Woman 2.” Warner Bros.

A “Wonder Woman” sequel is currently in the works, and Gal Gadot is already guaranteed to reprise her role as Diana Prince. Sadly, Chris Pine’s brave soldier Steve Trevor sacrificed his life in the first movie to save the world, so he won’t be back for the sequel. But what about Steve’s secretary, Etta Candy (Lucy Davis), and the rest of his friends?

In a deleted scene from the theatrical release, Etta meets with Steve’s men --Sameer (Said Taghmaoui), Charlie (Ewen Bremner) and Chief (Eugene Brave Rock) -- at the bar and rounds them up for a secret mission. The scene, titled “Etta’s Mission,” showed Etta and the boys talking about a “very old, very powerful” artifact that needs to be delivered to the Americans. If it ends up in the wrong hands, the said artifact would cause a lot of trouble for the world.

Aside from this secret mission, what else do people know about the “Wonder Woman” sequel? Director Patty Jenkins, who is in discussions to helm the movie, told Entertainment Weekly that “the story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right,” adding that “it’s time” Wonder Woman makes her way to America.

Jenkins also said that she wants to direct “Wonder Woman 2” not because she feels obligated to see the franchise through, but because she believes in it so much. “I realized that ‘Wonder Woman 2’ is its own great movie. I made ‘Wonder Woman.’ Now I want to make ‘Wonder Woman 2.’ It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love,” she said.

Should Jenkins confirm her filmmaking duties in “Wonder Woman 2,” Deadline reported that she will become the highest-paid female director in town. Despite her hefty salary, Gadot truly believes that the DCEU got the right woman for the job. “It might translate to some people that the only reason they took Patty for the job was because she is a woman,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “Honestly, they took her for the job because she was the right person to deliver the movie with a similar vision to theirs.”

“Wonder Woman 2” has been scheduled for release on Dec. 19, 2019.
