Freddie Combs, 41, on Thursday delivered one of the most shocking performances in the history of Fox's "The X Factor" after he had to literally be wheeled out onto the stage by his wife Kay Combs because he is too heavy to walk.

In the beginning of Combs' story, he explained he had a life-changing moment when he almost died because he weighed 920 pounds.

Through diet and exercise, Combs achieved a massive weight loss of 400 pounds before appearing at "The X Factor" audition in Greensboro, N.C., weighing 540 pounds.

"My wife Kay is an incredible woman. She started caring for me right after we got married in '96, and as my weight rose, more things were required of her -- and she is the closest thing to an angel and a saint that I know," Combs said in his preinterview. He later told his wife, "Don't be disappointed if I don't make it."

Combs told the show's producers that nobody heard his music when he was bedridden, but he wanted to make it so that those who were in a similar situation could be inspired.

"I hope the judges give a fat boy a chance," Combs said.

He sang "Wing Beneath My Wings," dedicating it to his wife.

The judges were impressed with Combs' voice, but they weren't going to let him on the show without making a deal with the singer.

Simon Cowell began the critiquing by telling him he envisioned Combs singing the song while standing and that if he let Combs on the show, then the singer had to promise he would work hard so that he could stand on "The X Factor" stage and sing the song.

Both Demi Lovato and Britney Spears simply gave Combs thumbs-up so he could appear on the show, but L.A. Reid wasn't going to let the obese Combs get away without making the deal Cowell had proposed, either.

Reid told Combs his voice was "heavenly" and that if he were able to stand on "The X Factor" stage, then Reid would stand with him.

But this wasn't the first time Combs had appeared on reality television. In 2010, he and his wife starred on TLC's "Ton of Love."

Even though "The X Factor" made him look like a loving husband, TLC portrayed him as lazy, impatient, and demanding.

“I began needing help taking care of myself two weeks into our marriage,” Combs said in a clip for the TLC show. Combs is shown complaining about the silverware that his wife gave him after they ordered takeout food, saying, “These are not the same weight.”

Combs ordered his wife around nonstop in the TLC show -- “Kill that fly!” “Give me a pillow!” “Chop chop woman, come on!” “Get down here!” -- and he didn't say, "Please."

“When he calls my name, he expects me [to come] like three seconds later,” his wife Kay admitted.

“I ain’t gonna lie -- I like having women waiting on me,” Combs said with a laugh.
